Situated on the ledge of a long plateau, the dramatic site was once one of the Roman Empire's most remote outposts. We also see the sacred town of Moulay Idriss (photo stop only). Moulay Idriss is a dramatic sight, houses and mosques piled up around two rock outcrops. We continue to Meknes, Morocco's youngest Imperial City. DAY 5. Fes city day tour

Today we will have a full day walking tour to discover Fes, the extraordinary medieval walled city. Once inside the gates of this great spectacle, you will see an entirely different view of life in Morocco. In contrast to the well-planned new city, the old city is a labyrinth of alleys and lanes lined with shops, mosques, homes and schools. In 1980 UNESCO designated the medina a World Heritage Site. At Fes, we will start with a visit to the Royal Palace, Jewish Quarter, theological schools and several mosques.  Our guide will take us to the medina to view the market shops or souks. We will see the famous traditional tannery factory and shops of tailoring handicraft. Today's walk is an amazing look into the life of the Moroccan city-dweller where little has changed over the centuries. We will spend the night at Fes hotel.

DAY 6. Fes – Ifrane – Erfoud - Merzouga (desert)

We drive through Ifrane, the Switzerland of Morocco with white-walled and steep red roofs French-style villas.  Brief stop as Azrou, where you can see Barbary apes in the cedar forest of the Middle Atlas. Lunch is in Midelt Kasbah restaurant, “the apple capital”, at the foot of the Ayachi Mountain. We continue over the Tizi-n-Talremt pass and through the Ziz Valley, which is particularly well-known for its palm trees and the length of the oasis. From here we pass by Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils. Once you arrive Merzouga, you will be greeted with a glass of tea. Then you will watch the sunset over the Sahara desert dunes either by 4x4 vehicle or by camel. This is a magical landscape with huge sand dunes. Their color shifts from pink to gold to red to white depending on the time of day. We will have dinner in desert tents that followed by an evening of music.
